OUR ROOTS
Safe Food Alliance was founded in October 3, 2016 as a sister organization to DFA of California.
DFA of California is a non-profit trade association, DFA was founded in 1908 as the Dried Fruit Association and provided commodity inspection services to dried fruit and tree nut processors.
As DFA expanded their capabilities beyond quality inspection and grew to service new commodities, they entered a transitional period during which they were known as the American Council for Food Safety and Quality. The company has since grown to a full-service food safety organization with over a century of experience in the industry, and have created a new business segment known today as Safe Food Alliance, which manages all of the food safety services. The letters “DFA” no longer carry any specific meaning, but were kept as an homage to their rich history. DFA of California serves their dried fruit, tree nut, and kindred product members in the services of commodity inspection, Red Seal Certificates, Arbitration, and the Export Trading Company.
