About DFA of California
DFA of California was established in 1908 as a non-profit trade association, DFA was founded as the Dried Fruit Association and provided commodity inspection services to dried fruit and tree nut processors.
As DFA expanded their capabilities beyond quality inspection and grew to service new commodities, they entered a transitional period during which they were known as the American Council for Food Safety and Quality. They have since grown to a full-service food safety organization with over a century of experience in the industry, and have created a new business segment known today as Safe Food Alliance, which manages all of the food safety services. The letters “DFA” no longer carry any specific meaning, but were kept as an homage to their rich history. DFA of California serves their dried fruit, tree nut, and kindred product members in the services of commodity inspection, Red Seal Certificates, Arbitration, and the Export Trading Company.
