On April 4th, Governor Gavin Newsom issued an Executive Order to guarantee that essential critical infrastructure employees can obtain necessary childcare to continue working during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The order calls for the reopening of state-supported before and after school childcare facilities. Essential employees will now have priority in arranging for care during work hours.
In the order, Governor Newsom recognizes that childcare is essential for working families, particularly for employees who work in essential critical infrastructure industries which include food and agriculture.
Additional guidelines for the order are expected to be released on Tuesday, April 7th, and will detail how childcare will be facilitated while maintaining social distancing with the shelter-in-place order.
