This is an instructor lead training that will take place 10am-12pm PDT.
Swabbing 101 is designed to give attendees an overall understanding of environmental monitoring and hands-on experience with samples collection. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate that can be used as a demonstration of competency for GSFI compliance.
Course Objectives
This training reviews the definition and significance of environmental monitoring, the concept of zoning in environmental sampling, and sampling for the various pathogens and indicators. The instructor discusses the importance of buffers in sample preservation and demonstrates proper swabbing techniques.
During the course, you receive two practice swabbing exercises and one actual swabbing with an inoculated surface to assess your proficiency in recovering microorganisms. Each of your attempts is recorded in case your swabs are not in the acceptable z score. We can then review your technique and see if you missed something.
