2016 Winter Meeting, January 2016
DFA of California attended and exhibited at the 2016 Nut Grower’s Society of Oregon, Washington and British Columbia (NGS) Winter Meeting.
The estimated attendance at the meeting was approximately 700 people – and included a few familiar faces from DFA’s partnerships with boards and associations. Topics addressed included: erosion control, new varieties of trees, acreage status and a presentation about Oregon Hazelnut Marketing by the Hazelnut Marketing Board’s Executive Director, Michael Klein.
The meeting also included a ceremony featuring the passing of the President’s gavel from LeRoy Kropf to new NGS President Dylan Bruck.

American Olive Oil Producers Association (AOOPA)
Annual Meeting and Conference, February 2016
The American Olive Oil Producers Association (AOOPA) is a non-profit trade association formed in 2012 and headquartered in Clovis, Ca.
DFA was fortunate to have the opportunity at AOOPA’s Annual Meeting and Conference to speak about the FDA’s FSMA (Food Safety Modernization Act) regulations for the food industry.
Other topics at the event included the State of the Olive Oil Industry, a review of Olive Oil production in various states across the United States, a review of recent research, and an address from Congressman Doug LaMalfa (R-CA1).

California League of Food Processors (CLFP)
Food Processing Expo, February 2016
The California League of Food Processors (CLFP) Food Processing Expo was held at the Sacramento Convention Center in Sacramento CA on February 17-18, 2016 and featured more than 260 exhibitors and vendors, including DFA.
Sessions and workshops held included: a day-long tomato processing training, efficient energy usage for processing plants, packaging trends, and labor law. The kickoff session featured noted retail expert Phil Lempert and his presentation titled, “How Consumers and Retailers are Changing the Food World: The Battle for the American Meal”.
Registered attendees totaled nearly 1,000 and DFA welcomed hundreds of people at their expo booth and held a drawing for an Apple iPad Mini. The excitement at the booth culminated with the winner being announced on Thursday, February 18 – the lucky entrant was Nathan Hench, General Manager of InnoMark, Inc.

American Pistachio Growers (APG)
American Pistachio Industry 2016 Annual Conference, February 2016
The American Pistachio Industry hosted their Annual Conference in Palm Desert, CA on February 17-19, 2016.
The bustling expo floor featured more than 70 booths and exhibitors and hundreds of attendees. The session schedule covered informative topics such as: government and trade policy; crop insurance; drought and water conditions; as well as production trainings.
During the State of the Industry and Marketing update, APG Chairman-elect and 2015 Tulare “Farmer of the Year”, Jimi Valov, spoke about his experiences as a delegate on a December 2015 goodwill trip across China to promote California Pistachios.
